James Bond
After multiple postponements, the greatly anticipated James Bond movie No Time to Die will premiere on 30 September 2021. Daniel Craig will don the 007 tuxedo one last time. It’s time for a retrospective and comparison of Mr. Craig’s Bond with his esteemed predecessors.Â
The Bond men
Each actor brought something unique to their version of James Bond. Whether it was spectacularly crashing cars, or fixation on a particular nemesis … and not all were equally successful with the ladies. What do they have in common? A penchant for luxury watches and stylish suits.
We appraise the Bond men in 3 aspects: exclusive taste, charm with the ladies and weapon use. Who wore the most expensive watch? Who had the most seductive prowess? And who used the most lethal force?

The most exclusive taste
Sean Connery
James Bond is the epitome of style for many men. Cool, calm and collected. Well-groomed, impeccably dressed in an elegant suit (or tuxedo) and with the subtle finishing touch of a luxury craftsman wristwatch. But take a closer look at all the Bond men and you’ll notice differences that set them apart.
If watches are a barometer of expensive tastes, certain Bond men stand out. Roger Moore would happily wear a €75 watch but just as nonchalantly wore a €180,000 watch on occasion. On average, Sean Connery had the most expensive taste in watches. The average price of his watches? €71,000!
Daniel Craig, who according to some is the quintessential James Bond, has relatively modest tastes wearing watches with an average price tag of ‘only’ €4,739.
The ultimate ladies man
Sean Connery
Where James Bond goes, beautiful women are sure to follow. In the 24 Bond movies made, there were 79 Bond Girls from 25 different countries. While most Bond Girls came from England (14) and the USA (11), 2 Dutch actresses have made it into this exclusive club: Famke Janssen (GoldenEye, 1995) and Daphne Dekkers (Tomorrow Never Dies, 1997).
One of Bond’s enduring legacies may be the many passionate clinches with many, many women. Bond’s seductive charms prove to be irresistible to, on average, 3.3 ladies in each movie. Sean Connery and Roger Moore are the only Bonds scoring above this average, each having a whopping 25 conquests to their name. Connery distinguishes himself as the winner with the highest average of 4.2 lovers per movie. Almost 40 years after these two legends played Bond on the silver screen, Daniel Craig clocks in with ‘only’ 2.5 romantic dalliances per movie. Do these recent numbers reveal an image makeover for these modern times? Never say never again…
Most effective weapon use
Pierce Brosnan
Taking his License to Kill seriously, Pierce Brosnan leads the field with 135 kills. Roger Moore comes in at a distant second place with 90, closely followed by Daniel Craig with 83 kills, averaging 20 per movie. So, with No Time to Die about to be released, Daniel Craig has ample opportunity to shoot his way into second (or even first!) place. We watch with anticipation…
Extra: the Martini-index
Daniel Craig
One category where Daniel Craig as James Bond is the clear winner: The Martini Index. Eleven martinis in 4 movies. This feat is even more impressive considering all of Craig’s martinis were shaken (not stirred) after 1997 when Heineken became a major sponsor of the Bond movies.
Craig leads the pack with more than twice the martinis consumed than Pierce Brosnan in second place. Brosnan downs just 5 martinis in 4 movies. With No Time to Die about to be released, it will be Craig’s last and best chance to leave an enduring record. In any case it will be easier than taking a shot at the Ultimate Ladies Man title. It does raise the question: Is Craig’s lesser success with the ladies related to his martini-drinking record?
